The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office released on Tuesday general safety tips for the public for the holiday shopping season.
— Make sure to shop in groups. The bigger the group, the safer you are.
— Make sure that any and all doors to your vehicle are locked before entering a store. If you are making multiple trips to different places, keep packages in an enclosed trunk space instead of leaving them out in the open vehicle.
— Leave items such as social security cards and birth certificates at home. These items are commonly associated with identification theft.
— Park your vehicle in well-lit areas.
While traveling during this holiday season, the Sheriff’s Office recommends several different ways to keep residences safe while occupants are gone.
— Keep lights on in your residence while you are away.
— If you do have some type of security system, make sure it is set before you leave.
— Speak with neighbors to let them know you are out of town and that no one should be inside your residence.
— Also have those neighbors get your mail and newspaper for you.
— Check all doors and windows to make sure they are locked.
