Sheriff's Office: Shooting Victim Surprised Friend

There's been no decision made as to whether or not charges will be filed against the shooter.

A 19-year-old man found shot in Taylors on Saturday night was apparently wounded after he surprised a friend who was armed with a weapon, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

At roughly 7 p.m. Saturday, the Sheriff's Office received a phone call about a gunshot victim. The victim was at the Bi-Lo on East North Street in Taylors after having been shot at residence on Tanner Road, according to Public Information Officer Zach Hinton.

The victim had been shot in the upper torso, and was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital. He is currently in stable condition.

Hinton said investigators have learned that the victim was at the Tanner Road residence on Saturday night because had driven there to see a friend who lived there. He reportedly surprised his friend when he grabbed him from behind to greet him, prompting the shooting. The shooter was reportedly not expecting the victim at the time, and wasn't sure of who he was when he fired the shot.

Hinton said the investigation is still ongoing, and that it is unknown if charges will be filed at this time.
