Taylors Family Suing State Over Deadly Wreck

Elderly man was killed in a collision with a South Carolina State Transport Police cruiser earlier this year.

The family of a 91-year-old man who was killed earlier this year in a two-car automobile accident is suing South Carolina's Department of Public Safety.

Deborah and Raymond Reid, niece and nephew of Everett Hancock, have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the state, according to WSPA News Channel 7.

On March 4, Hancock was driving east on Wade Hampton Boulevard and turning onto Rutherford Road in Taylors when his car was struck by a state vehicle driven by Officer Gerald Sims, Jr.

Sims, who was reportedly driving nearly 30 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, ultimately pled guilty to driving too fast for conditions.
