Update: Gunshot victim has died

18-year-old Preston Bishop died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

An 18-year-old man living in a Wade Hampton area apartment complex has died after being found shot in the head Thursday night.

At roughly 7:45 p.m., Greenville County Sheriff's deputies responded to 50 Glenwood Road, unit G137, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

Deputy Coroner Jeff Fowler identified the victim as Preston Bishop, of Walterboro.  He was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he has since died, according to Lt. Mike Hildebrand of the GCSO.

GreenvilleOnline reported that the teen may have been playing with the weapon before it discharged, but Hildebrand said that was not the case.

"We have no evidence that he was playing any kind of game with the gun," Hildebrand said. "It does appear that the injury is self-inflicted, but at this point we do not know if it was accidental or intentional."
