- Costumes
- Costumes should be short and snug. Baggy sleeves and billowy capes can be a tripping hazard and could also be a potential fire hazard.
- Shoes should fit. While clown feet are funny, they could be hard to walk in and cause children to trip and fall.
- Costume props should be flexible. Swords, knives, pitchforks, etc., should be made of soft materials in the event the child falls.
- Eyeholes in all masks should be wide enough to allow children to see fully. Masks that are too large can block vision. Painting your face would be a better option!
- On the street
- Drivers should be able to see the costume in the dark. Add reflective tapes to the costume.
- Never allow children to go trick-or-treating alone. Children 13 and under should be with an adult.
- Cross streets at sidewalks or intersections.
- Treats
- Always check your child's treats before letting them eat anything.
