A 2-year-old boy has died after being struck by a falling tree.

Lt. Tim Ridgeway said Greenville County deputies were called to a home at 245 Styles Road in Taylors, after 9-1-1 received a call that a child was injured and not breathing.

Ridgeway said that a storm had passed through the area earlier and that afterwards the parents were outside playing with the child when the tree came crashing down.

Ridgeway said their was no indication as to what had caused the tree to fall. He said it may have been an older tree that fell because it was just weak or dying.

Ridgeway said because of the child's age, he was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was to be treated for head and facial injuries. The child's health began to decline and Ridgeway said his office was later notified that the child had died.
