A young child was still alive Monday night after nearly drowning at a local water park.

Officials with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the Greenville County Recreation District said at roughly 3:45 p.m., a young child was found underwater in the pool area of the Otter Creek Water Park on West Darby Road.

Mike Teachey, director of community relations for the Greenville Rec, confirmed the incident.

"It was a 3-year-old African-American who had been found in the middle part of the pool," Teachey said. "A man brought him to a lifeguard stand and said he didn't think he was breathing. They gave him mouth-to-mouth, CPR, and he was taken to Greenville Memorial. He seems to be breathing and doing OK, last I heard."

Emergency Medical Services and Greenville County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. No further information is available.
