Upstate Native Jesse Jackson Jr. Dealing With Health Issues

U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is being treated for "physical and emotional ailments."

U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has been checked into an inpatient medical facility for treatment of "physical and emotional ailments that are considered more seriously than previously believed, according to a report from the Huffington Post. 

A statement from Jackson's office was released confirming the Chicago Democrat's treatment. 

"Congressman Jackson's medical condition is more serious than we thought and initially believed," the statement said. "Recently, we have been made aware that he has grappled with certain physical and emotional ailments privately for a long period of time. At present, he is undergoing further evaluation and treatment at an in-patient medical facility."

The 47-year-old Jackson, who faces a House ethics investigation over his ties to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, is up for re-election in November.
