Verizon Wireless announced Monday it will soon expand the nation’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to more places in Upstate South Carolina.
The company initially launched 4G LTE in Greenville in June 2011 with coverage extending to surrounding areas like Greer, Mauldin and Simpsonville. The data network, which is a step up from 3G speeds, provides customers data usage for surfing the Web, streaming music and video, downloading files or using apps.
“Soon more Verizon Wireless customers in the Upstate will have access to our 4G LTE network,” said Jerry Fountain, president of Verizon Wireless’ Carolinas/Tennessee region. “Currently, more than 73 percent of South Carolina’s population is able to experience the speed and benefits 4G LTE affords.”

The company’s 4G LTE service is available to more than 230 million people across the United States – nearly 75 percent of the U.S. population.
