"We played a little sluggish," Haltiwanger said. "We were off our game a little bit today. We just wanted to come out here today and get through this game with no injuries."

Haltiwanger said he saw some postive things in his team at both the scrimmage Friday night and the game Saturday. He said now is the time to fine tune.

"We have some things to work on with our defense," Haltiwanger said. "We have some injuries we are working through and just trying to get people healthy before the season starts."

Blake Hayes ran for 57 yards on seven carries and turned a short pass from quarterback Terrence Sudberry into a 45-yard touchdown.

“We started off with a couple of mistakes,” Hayes said. “It was a little bit of adversity. But we bounced back and played well.”

Trent Scott had an 11-yard touchdown and 25 total yards on four attempts, while Nick Grove added 25 yards on three rushes.

Sudberry also completed a 28-yard pass to Mejik Henderson.

The Generals’ defense, meanwhile, held Carolina to only three first downs and 80 totals yards, half of which came on one play with a lost fumble at the end.

The Trojans were 0-for-5 on pass attempts and Dylan Lord had a quarterback sack on the final play.

Wade Hampton will open their season at home Aug. 26 against Blue Ridge.

Wade Hampton, No. 6 in the Class 3A preseason rankings, went 9-2 last season.

The Generals went 4-1 in Region II-3A, the only loss to Greenville, and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Chester, 33-28.
