Wade Hampton Student Named as Scholarship Semifinalist
Leah Gaffney was one of two students in Greenville County Schools to be named a semifinalist in the 2012 National Achievement Scholarship program

Leah M. Gaffney from Wade Hampton High School has been named a semifinalists in the Achievement Scholarship competition by the National Achievement Scholarship Program, according to Greenville County Schools. She is among more than 1,600 Black American high school seniors who received the honor.
She will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 800 Achievement Scholarship® awards, worth more than $2.4 million, to be offered next spring, the district said in a release.
To be considered for the scholarship, Gaffney will have to complete several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition.

Every finalist will compete for one of the 700 one-time National Achievement $2,500 Scholarships, which will be awarded on a regional representation basis. Winners will be announced in April.
Darius L. Brown from Greenville Senior High Academy also was named a semi-finalist.
