Soldier From Tennessee Killed, 2 Others Injured In Training Accident: Army

A military vehicle struck a group of soldiers at Fort Jackson, killing two privates, including one from Tennessee, the army said

FORT JACKSON, SC — Two soldiers, including one from Middle Tennessee, were killed and six others, including two Tennesseans, were injured when a vehicle struck a group of soldiers in formation at Fort Jackson, the Army announced Saturday.

Pvt. Ethan Shrader of Prospect, Tenn., in Giles County, was killed, as was Pvt. Timothy Ashcraft of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Pvt. Benjamin Key of Livingston, Tenn. and Pvt. Alan Kryszak of Clarksville were injured. The other injured are Pvt. Emmett Foreman from Daleville, Alabama; Pvt. Hannah New of Cartersville, Georgia; Pvt. Cardre Jackson Jr., Laurel, Maryland; and Pvt. James Foster, Macon, Georgia.

"We are continuing to support everyone affected by this tragic event," said U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson Commander Maj. Gen. Pete Johnson. "I am very appreciative for all the exceptional support from the Columbia medical community. We also appreciate the outpouring of support. Please keep the Family members, injured Soldiers and our fellow teammates affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers."

Fort Jackson is the Army's largest basic training facility, with 50,000 recruits reporting there annually. The Army did not say exactly how the accident happened or what kind of vehicle was involved.
