3 Dead, Firefighter Injured In South Nashville Blaze

NASHVILLE, TN -- Three people died and five others, including a firefighter, were injured in a South Nashville house fire Wednesday morning. The home, which housed 12 adults and one child, had no working smoke alarms or sprinklers, investigators said.

Shortly before 5:30 a.m., a blaze broke out at a home on Southwood Drive near Murfreesboro Pike. Firefighters pulled three people from the home and began treating them in the front yard before they were transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition. All three later died.

A firefighter was burned while battling the blaze. He was taken to Vanderbilt, as well, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Four others, including the child, were treated for minor injuries.

The home is a halfway house for women.
