Metro Officer Hit During South Nashville Standoff

A bullet grazed a Metro Nashville Police officer during an hours-long stand-off at the Tony Sudekum Apartments.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A man barricaded inside a unit at the Tony Sudekum Apartments fired several shots in the direction of police, striking one officer, during an hours-long standoff Wednesday.

According to Metro Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron, the incident began around 7 a.m. as a domestic situation with the suspect, identified as Justin Jones, firing a gun into the ground near his girlfriend and a 11-year-old.

Police established a perimeter after Jones barricaded himself inside a unit and then heard at least one shot fired from inside. As a result, Officer Gerry Hutcheson was hit in the shoulder and has what Aaron called a "non-penetrative wound." Hutcheson was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
