Pedestrian Killed Walking On I-40

A man was killed after he was hit by a car as he was walking along Interstate 40 south of downtown Nashville early Monday.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Metro Police are trying to determine why a man who was hit by a car and killed was walking along Interstate 40 early Monday.

A driver was merging from I-65 on to I-40 near the Adventure Science Center around 2:30 Monday morning when he hit a man walking in the roadway. The pedestrian was killed instantly. The driver complained of neck pain and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The police have yet to identify the victim, but said he is a male between 25 and 35 and may have been involved in an earlier wreck on I-40 about an hour before.

The accident closed the interstate for a few hours, though all lanes were reopened in time for the morning commute.
