Franklin Road Widening Underway

Franklin Road between Moores Lane and Concord Road will go from two lanes to five over the next three years.

BRENTWOOD, TN — State officials ceremonially broke ground Tuesday on a long-awaited $27 million, three-year project to expand Franklin Road from two lanes to five between Moores Lane and Concord Road.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation says that stretch of Franklin Road sees 23,000 cars each day. The road is already five lanes wide north of Concord and into Brentwood and Davidson County.

Long-term, of course, the expansion will ease congestion, but in the short term — the three-year short term — things might be slow, something TDOT Commissioner John Schroer acknowledged at the groundbreaking.

"I have a friend that lives a quarter mile from here and he texted me over the weekend and said just want you to know I'm going to hate you for the next 2 or 3 years and I said well that's fine. But you'll be happy when it's over," he said according to NewsChannel 5.

The project also includes a 10-foot wide multi-use trail.

The first year or so of construction will focus on utility relocation and upgrades. During daylight construction, TDOT plans to keep two lanes open.
