Songwriter Announces Congressional Bid
Lee Thomas Miller, one of country music's top songwriters, will seek the Republican nomination for the 7th District U.S. House seat.

BRENTWOOD, TN — Lee Thomas Miller has written seven songs that have topped the country charts and now he's looking to tally another win. Miller, one of country music's top songwriters, announced Tuesday he is seeking the Republican nomination to succeed U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn in representing Tennessee's Seventh District in Washington.
“I’ve been writing the stories of real Americans for as long as I can remember," Miller said in a press release. "Stories about life and loss. Love and regret. Songs about innocence and youth. Songs about faith and the struggle to keep it. I give a voice to those who can not find the words they are looking for. I give a voice to those who are not being heard.”
Miller serves as president of Nashville Songwriters Association International and as such has spent time in halls of Congress pushing for extended copyright protection. Blackburn, in her two decades in the House, has been one of the leading advocates for songwriters' and performers' issues.
