12-Year-Old Girl Charged In Madison Murder Of 16-Year-Old

MADISON, TN -- A 12-year-old faces murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing a 16-year-old in Madison early Sunday morning.

Metro Police responded to a shooting call at the Falcon View Apartments on East Palestine Avenue in Madison around 3:30 Sunday morning. When they arrived, they found a group of people inside the apartment and a 16-year-old girl dead.

Investigators say a group of juvenile girls were staying in the apartment, which is the home of the 12-year-old suspect's grandmother. The group then went through the complex's parking lot looking for unlocked cars and apparently found a semi-automatic pistol inside one of the cars.

Detectives allege that once back at the apartment, the 12-year-old was "handling" the gun when it discharged, striking 16-year-old Bentrice Wilson, killing her. The 12-year-old is charged with criminal homicide.
