18-Year-Old Charged In Madison Bus Murder

Antonio Jones is charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a fellow 18-year-old on an MTA bus midday Monday.

MADISON, TN -- One 18-year-old is dead and another is charged with his murder following a shooting on a Metro Transit Authority bus in Madison midday Monday.

Witnesses told police Tyvonceea Hayden and Antonio Jones boarded the bus near the Madison Library as it traveled inbound on Gallatin Pike. Fellow passengers said the pair exchanged just a few words when Jones allegedly pulled a gun, shooting Hayden as the bus passed Webster Street around noon.

Shortly thereafter, the bus pulled over at the MTA’s Gallatin Pike/Due West Avenue stop and Jones and his girlfriend, who was carrying an infant, fled the bus in opposite directions, according to police.

The girlfriend was located a short time later on Due West. A relative drove Jones to the East Precinct where he surrendered. He was taken to the Madison Precinct and declined to be interviewed.

Investigators said that Hayden had been in a "dating relationship" with one of Jones' relatives and the pair were acquainted with one another.
