19-Year-Old Charged In Shooting Death Of Whites Creek Freshman
A 19-year-old charged with killing a Whites Creek High School freshman told detectives the shooting was accidental.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A Whites Creek High School freshman died after a shooting in East Nashville Wednesday night and a 19-year-old faces criminal homicide charges.
Jeremiah Shelton, 15, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being shot in the chest at the Berkshire Place Apartments on Porter Road. Metro Police interviewed a group of other teenagers who were in the apartment with Shelton.
Detectives say that 19-year-old Joshua Hockett said the group was "play-fighting" and that he accidentally shot Shelton.

A black revolver matching the description given by the teenagers was found in a closet of the apartment and collected, according to police.
Hockett is charged with criminal homicide.

Shelton is the fifth person under the age of 19 killed in Davidson County so far in 2018.
