East Nashville Market Shooting Kills 1

NASHVILLE, TN — One man was dead and another injured in a shooting outside a Gallatin Avenue market Thursday night.

Metro Police said Eric McClendon, 24, and Gregory Smith, 18, were in the parking lot when someone fired shots into the car around 9:30 Thursday night.

Smith then drove to a friend’s home on Matthews Avenue to ask for a ride to Skyline Medical Center.

McClendon was shot in the chest and died in the hospital. Smith remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect ran from the scene. Investigators are working to identify the shooter, believed to be a teen.

The motive also remains under investigation.
