Metro Narcotics Investigator Resigns After Theft Charge

A 16-year veteran of the Metro Nashville Police Department resigned Thursday following felony theft charges.

NASHVILLE, TN — The Metro Police narcotics investigator accused of pocketing cash during drug stings resigned Thursday after his arrest for felony theft.

James Landon Dunaway, an MNPD sergeant who had been with the department since 2001, submitted his resignation Thursday. MNPD's Office of Professional Accountability said he pocketed more than $5,000 cash in a late Wednesday afternoon sting set up at a local motel.

OPA began a secret investigation of Dunaway in September after another officer saw Dunaway take cash during the execution of a search warrant in September.
