Mom Drops Baby During 'Small Bat' Assault: Nashville Police

An alleged assault in Northeast Nashville caused a woman to drop her infant, police said.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A Nashville mother dropped her baby while she was being assaulted inside her home, according to Metro Police.

According to an arrest report for Keawanna Burton, 30, the mother was inside her home in the 100 block of Old Trail Court on March 4 when she heard her older son yelling. It was then that a woman - Burton's mother, who has not been arrested - allegedly walked into the bedroom and punched the mother, causing her to drop the baby.

The woman allegedly said "she was getting her butt whipped for 'Coming to her daughter's house and disrespecting her.'"

The mother was hit with a beer bottle before Burton began allegedly punching and kicking her, with others later joining in the assault using "small bats," according to the arrest report.

Also during the assault, someone allegedly stole the woman's wallet, which contained between $450 and $800 cash, according to the affidavit.

The mother was taken to Skyline Medical Center with "significant injuries."

Burton is charged with aggravated robbery and vandalism for her role in the crime.
