Street Littered With Shells After Gunfire In East Nashville

Residents of an East Nashville neighborhood were terrified after gunfire erupted Friday night.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Witnesses told police they heard at least 100 shots Friday night on Straightway Avenue in East Nashville leaving the street was littered with shell casings.

Two people were shot around 7 p.m. Friday night, police said, and two vehicles were struck by bullets as they fled the scene.

Residents of the neighborhood told WKRN sounds of gunfire pierced the night and left a haze of ammunition smoke hanging over their homes.

"I know the smell of burnt ammunition, I knew it was burnt ammunition and before my brain could even process it, it was another round and then a pause and then another round and I just hit the floor," Stacie Huckeba told the station.

One of the people shot was a resident who came outside to see what was happening and then dove behind a car before realizing he'd been shot.
