Witness Trails Suspected Madison Car Thief, Tips Off Cops

A passerby saw a man breaking into cars in Madison, followed him to a gas station and called police, according to an arrest report.

MADISON, TN — Early Thursday morning, a man driving on East Palestine Drive in Madison saw someone breaking into cars at a condominium complex. So he tailed him.

The self-deputized sleuth followed the alleged burglar to a nearby gas station and called police. By the time officers arrived 10 minutes, the suspect had fled.

Shortly thereafter, police saw the suspect running after having crashed his car into a fence. The man refused to stop, police said, so he was tased and arrested.

The suspect's name has not been released.
