Woman Reports Beau For Stealing Car While Riding In Stolen Car

A woman called Metro Police from a stolen car demanding a reward for providing information about the stolen car.

NASHVILLE, TN — A woman called police to ask for a reward about a stolen car while she was riding in the stolen car, according to police.

Investigators say that, in July, Chance Mongeon jumped the counter of a rental car desk at Nashville International Airport and grabbed a set of keys, which happened to fit a 2017 Dodge Challenger.

Mongeon then drove over two spike strikes and made his way to Interstate 24, according to an affidavit. Officers spotted him, but he did not pull over and due to the fortuitous grab of a set of keys belonging to a muscle car with a Hemi V8 engine, he was able to elude police.

Meanwhile, dispatchers got a call from Cristy Caldwell, allegedly Mongeon's girlfriend. She told operators she knew what Mongeon intended to do, but would not give up the information unless she received a reward, allegedly saying "she knew the law very well and didn't have to give him up," according to the affidavit.

Police arrested Cardwell Tuesday, charging her with attempt to harbor and abet a fugitive, hindering arrest and refusal to provide aid and assistance. Mongeon was also arrested. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft over $10,000.
