Franklin, Williamson Tops In Employment

Williamson County ended the year with Tennessee's lowest unemployment and Franklin led the city list.

NASHVILLE, TN — Williamson County's unemployment rate fell to 2.5 percent in December, down 0.3 percent from November, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. The unemployment rate fell in 77 counties, rose in seven and was unchanged in 11 others, and is below 5 percent in 89 of the state's 95 counties.

Williamson County's rate is the lowest in the state; of the ten lowest county-level figures statewide, eight were in Middle Tennessee.

In Franklin, the city-level unemployment rate is estimated at 2.1 percent, down 0.3 percent from November and tied for the lowest figure among Tennessee cities of 25,000 people or more with neighboring Brentwood.

Williamson County's unemployment rate has dropped 1.3 percent since December 2016.

The state rate, reported last week, is 3.2 percent, up 0.1 percent from November’s adjusted figure.
