Here are the top three stories today in Franklin:

  1. The Department of Labor and Workforce Development has released its latest unemployment report. According to the department, Williamson County continues to have Tennessee's lowest unemployment rate, with a 2.1 percent unemployment rate last month. The state's highest unemployment is in Perry County at 4.9 percent. (Clarksville Online)
  2. The 21st Annual Wine Down Main Street event is scheduled for Nov. 5 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The event's official sponsor is Lipman Brothers, Nashville's oldest distributor of wine and spirits. The City of Franklin will be closing down a portion of Main Street for the event. Tickets can be purchased at this link. (City of Franklin)
  3. The City of Franklin used its new Archer Vehicle Barrier system at Pumpkinfest on Saturday. The system is an unanchored "drop-and-stop" barrier used for vehicle safety mitigation. The system is designed to stop vehicles from entering a closed street without hindering pedestrian movement. (City of Franklin)

Patch deal of the day:

Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
