Williamson Voters OK Sales Tax Increase For Schools

An overwhelming majority of a paltry minority of Williamson County voters approved a sales-tax increase for school debt.

FRANKLIN, TN -- By a two-to-one margin, Williamson County voters approved a sales-tax increase to fund county school debt. The half-cent increase, expected to generate $60 million over three years, will go into effect later this year.

In unofficial results - the count will be certified next week - 8,155 voted for the increase and 4,183 against, a roughly 66 percent approval rate.

Turnout for the referendum clocked in at a dismal 8.7 percent.
