Belle Meade Officer Fired, Arrested For Drug Theft

A Belle Meade police officer fired by Metro for prescription drug fraud in 2012 was arrested for stealing drugs from his aunt this week.

BELLE MEADE, TN — A Belle Meade police officer was fired after an arrest for allegedly stealing prescription drugs from his aunt, and it's not the first time he's lost a job because of prescription drug troubles.

Donald Lawman, 42, is free on bond following an arrest for misdemeanor theft. His aunt said her home's surveillance system captured Lawman stealing prescription drugs. Lawman had been an officer with the Belle Meade Police Department since February; he was fired upon his arrest.

Lawman was decommissioned from the Metro Nashville Police Department in 2012 following an indictment for prescription drug fraud. A years-long investigation led to charges that Lawman and his wife fraudulently obtained hydrocodone and Xanax.
