Police said the man had a pistol and no one else was at home. SWAT team members were able to speak to the man through a window and a negotiator used a megaphone to communicate with him.

Eventually, flash bang devices were deployed, in part because police thought the man may have fallen asleep because he'd been drinking. The man did come to the door, went on his front stoop and smoked a cigarette.

Police were able to convince the man to surrender before he went back inside. He was taken to a VA hospital for a mental evaluation.
