Vet Fires Gun Outside Nashville VA Hospital

A veteran allegedly shot a gun into the air a dozen times outside the VA hospital near Vanderbilt late Saturday.

NASHVILLE, TN — A man fired a dozen shots into the air outside the Veterans Administration hospital near the Vanderbilt University campus late Saturday, according to Metro Police.

After shooting into the air 12 times around 10:45 p.m., the man, who is a veteran, left the gun outside, walked into the hospital saying he was suicidal and that he was at the hospital to get help.

Vanderbilt sent a safety alert to students during the incident and then said there was no danger about 20 minutes later. No one was injured in the incident.

Metro Police said the man was not arrested, but he was cited for altering the gun's serial number.
