Commission Sets Public Hearing To Discuss Chevron Property
Amendments to Bellaire's Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map on the table January 10 at City Hall

BELLAIRE, TX — It's a historic plot of land, and has since the 1940s been used as a research and office campus, first by Texaco, and more recently by Chevron. Last year, Chevron announced it would cease all operations on the property and put it on the market. What's next?
That's what will be discussed on January 10 at City Hall, when the Planning & Zoning Commission convenes to debate proposed changes to the city's zoning and land-use rules. The hearing begins at 6 p.m. and will take place on the first floor of City Hall. All interested parties are encouraged to attend and speak on the proposals.
The land, which is situated north of Fournace Place between West Loop 610 and South Rice Avenue, is currently zoned as Technical Research Park District. At the commission's December meeting, the proposed changes to the land-use regulations were presented to the public, as prepared by Gary Mitchell, of Sugar Land-based Kendig Keast Collaborative. Taxes, zoning, residential issues, and other factors are involved in the redevelopment of the property.
