George H.W. Bush Celebrates 93rd Birthday
The former president won't skydive this year. "We hid his parachute," his chief of staff jokes.
George H.W. Bush, America's 41st president, turns 93 today and is celebrating with friends and family at the Bush compound in Kennebunkport, Maine. Barbara Bush, his wife, turned 92 last week.
Bush, the U.S.'s oldest living ex-president, won't jump out of a helicopter today, parachute strapped to his back, something he famously did on his 90th birthday, but aides say he is spry and ready to enjoy the festivities. The Texas native has made a parachute jump every five years since 1999, so the next one will take place in 2019.
Bush, who has spent his summers in Kennebunkport for years, arrived there last month from Houston, where he and the former first lady reside. The couple have been receiving guests and spending time with family members; on Friday, the Yale baseball team visited the compound, and Bush, who was a captain on the team during his Yale years, spoke with the players and their coach.

Bush was hospitalized in the spring and treated for bronchitis and pneumonia at Houston Methodist Hospital. He was discharged after spending about a month in the hospital, and according to his spokesman, has made a complete recovery.
Bush, who is suffering from a form of Parkinson's disease, uses a motorized scooter but is otherwise healthy.
