Houston Weekend Traffic: Lots of Closures, Disruptions

If you plan to drive in the Houston area this weekend, be prepared to make some detours and take routes to which you might not be accustomed. That's because there are closures and disruptions in at least nine locations.

As reported by Community Impact, a variety of construction projects will make driving this weekend a bit problematic, including for motorists on Highway 290 ad Beltway 8. Here is a roundup of the weekend's Houston-area traffic disruptions:

1. The eastbound connector ramp from Loop 610 South to I-45 is closed continuously until Sept. 30. Eastbound drivers can detour by taking the I-45 southbound connector ramp, exiting on Broadway Street and making a U-turn.

2. One outside lane of the eastbound connector ramp from Loop 610 South to Hwy. 288 northbound is closed nightly 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Sunday, April 30.

3. One outside lane of the westbound connector ramp from Loop 610 South to Hwy. 288 northbound is closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Sunday, April 23.

4. The eastbound connector ramp from Hwy. 290 to Beltway 8 West is closed continuously from 9 p.m. Friday, April 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 24. Drivers can detour by taking the frontage road at the FM 529 exit and then turning onto the Beltway 8 frontage road to access the tollway.

5. The westbound connector ramp from Hwy. 290 to Beltway 8 West is closed from 9 p.m. Friday, April 21, to noon on Saturday, April 22. Drivers can detour by taking the frontage road at the Gessner/W. Little York Road exit and then turning onto the Beltway 8 frontage road to access the tollway.

6. The northbound and southbound connector ramps from Beltway 8 West to Hwy. 290westbound are closed continuously from 9 p.m. Friday, April 21, to noon on Saturday, April 22. Drivers can detour by exiting at West/W. Little York roads and continuing on the frontage road to Hwy. 290.

7. The northbound and southbound connector ramps from Beltway 8 West to Hwy. 290eastbound are closed continuously from 9 p.m. Friday, April 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 24. Drivers can detour by exiting at West/W. Little York roads and continuing on the frontage road to Hwy. 290.

8. The exit to Beltway 8 North from the Hardy Toll Road is closed from 2 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 23. Alternating northbound lanes are closed between Aldine Mail Route and Beltway 8 North on the Hardy Toll Road between 2 a.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday.

9. Northbound and southbound lanes of FM 529 at Hwy. 290 are closed continuously from 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 24. Drivers can detour to the FM 529 frontage road and make a U-turn.
