2 Bartenders Arrested For Serving Woman Before Fatal DWI: Cops

Jon Ward and Shafay Look were both charged with selling an alcoholic beverage to an intoxicated person, police said.

GALVESTON, TEXAS — Two Galveston area bartenders were arrested for selling alcohol to an intoxicated woman in the hours leading up to a deadly DWI crash earlier this summer, officials said. According to police, bartenders Jon Ward, 56, and Shafay Look, 34, were both charged with selling an alcoholic beverage to an intoxicated person.

Investigators said Look and Ward were seen on surveillance video serving alcohol at the Island Pier Club 15 on June 4 to an intoxicated Gerilyn Weberlein in the hours leading up to the fatal crash.

Officials said Weberlein appeared visibly intoxicated when she left the bar shortly before 10 p.m. on June 4. Less than 15 minutes later Weberlein ran over and that killed Marco Beltran and critically injured another man as the pair rode their bicycles 69th Street.

Police said Weberlein's blood alcohol level was at .103, which is over the .08 legal limit.

Weberlein was charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault after the crash. She was later released from the Galveston County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Meanwhile, if Ward and Look are convicted on the misdemeanor charge, they could each spend a year in jail and incur a $500 fine. A judge set bail at $7,500 each.
