Body Of Missing 11-Year-Old Swimmer Recovered 2 Miles Offshore

A day at the beach turned deadly on Sunday when an 11-year-old boy was caught in a rip current and drowned, officials said.

GALVESTON, TX — The body of an 11-year-old boy who disappeared while swimming Sunday evening in Galveston has been recovered, officials said. The boy’s body was recovered Tuesday evening by Galveston Marine Response, about two miles offshore from 9 Mile Road and Highway 3005.

The boy was among several kids who were at the beach with a supervisor from a local youth shelter called Children's Center Incorporated, officials said.

Witnesses said the 11-year-old boy and another child were swimming near the jettys when they became trapped in a rip current. The supervisor was able to get to one of the boys.
