CCISD Looking for Citizen of the Year

The Clear Creek ISD board is looking for nominees for citizen of the year.

Clear Lake, TX -- Now someone who loves volunteering at the school? The Clear Creek Independent School District's board of trustees is seeking nominations for the 2016 Citizen of the Year.

  • Demonstrated a commitment to Clear Creek ISD through volunteer efforts.
  • Contributed significantly in ways that have benefited the entirety of Clear Creek ISD.
  • Maintained a reputation across the Clear Creek ISD community as an individual with high standards and dedication to excellence in public education.
  • Voluntarily served the district and its students and patrons over an extended period of time.

In addition to the warm and fuzzy feeling of having done something good, and the lovely plaque, the recipient of CCISD's citizen of the year award gets to make a real impact on the district.

A few years ago the district's board of trustees created an endowment fund, the fund allows the citizen of the year to designate a CCISD program or classroom activity in his or her name.

A whole host of ethical questions can be raised about the merit of letting unpaid volunteers, many of whom have children going to school in the district, decide which program needs an extra infusion of cash.

And while it might seem odd to give budget authority to the most dedicated theater mom, library volunteer and track supporter -- it is nice that the district put some incentives behind the citizen of the year thing.
