Clear Creek ISD Approves Rezoning Plan For 2019-2020 School Year

CLEAR LAKE, TX — The board of trustees for Clear Creek ISD approved a plan to rezone to reduce campus overcrowding. The changes, which will take effect at the start of the 2019-2020 school year, will affect approximately 1,000 students, officials said.

The changes will impact 18 elementary schools, two intermediate schools, and all five comprehensive high schools, according to a district press release.

The board action follows an extensive community-engagement effort to populate the new Florence Campbell Elementary and to address overcrowding in several CCISD elementary schools and high schools.

“We are fortunate to have 44 wonderful schools, so wherever a child is zoned to attend, he or she will be greeted with exceptional learning experiences and highly qualified teachers,” said Page Rander, CCISD Board President.

As part of new district regulations, the high school boundary changes will go into effect for the incoming freshmen, only.

Students currently attending high school today will remain at their home campus until graduation.

“This grandfathering of high school students is a CCISD best practice,” said Dr. Greg Smith, Superintendent of Schools. “Students are already engaged in their four-year graduation plans, clubs and extracurricular activities.”

While not technically part of the Board approved school boundary changes, there will be a slight adjustment to WAVE magnet assignments for students who reside in the Robinson Elementary and Greene Elementary attendance zones.

The District will be communicating directly with those few students who will be impacted by a change in their WAVE assignment.

Science Magnet assignments are not affected by the board-approved recommendations. All approved boundary recommendations will go into effect for the 2019-2020 school year. Families affected by a boundary change will receive an email, a call and information by mail from the school district in the coming weeks.
