This week on Clear Lake Connections Podcast presented by UTMB Health: Meet Shawna Reid, Marketing and Visitors Center Manager at the Bay Area Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. In this week’s episode, Shawna shares with us all of the holiday events happening in and around our area and how they make Bay Area Houston so unique. The people in Bay Area Houston make the most out of the Holidays. Space Center has their Galaxy Lights going on with more events and more lights and every year it keeps on getting bigger and better. It will be running from now until January 2nd. Some of the event people can go to outdoors is Holiday in the Park December 3rd-5th in League City. Three solid days of parades, markets, kids events, live music and all kids of fun right in the heart of old League City.

Jingle on the Boardwalk kicks off the first weekend of December as well. They will have pictures with Santa and the Aquarium along with their Pancakes with Santa. Bay Area Houston will also be having Nutcracker performances with the Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theatre. These performances are the first and second weekend of December and they will be taking place at the Bayou Theatre at University of Houston Clear Lake.

With tourism for our area we are seeing numbers come back like they we’re pre-covid. They are slowly starting to see attractions in are area rise back and in the terms of meetings and conventions, they are hoping to see them be completely normal at the start of 2023. There is always something happening every weekend. Nassau Bay’s Holiday in the Park is kicking off Boat Parade Weekend and this year it is special considering it is the 60th Annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade. The committee is working hard to make sure that this is one for the ages. Shawna would say some of the top holiday traditions this area is known for is the unveiling of the Gingerbread House at South Shore Harbour Resort which kicks off the Sugarplum weekend which is part of BAHBAT’s production of the Nutcracker.

Art’s and Entertainment are in full swing in Bay Area Houston. There are many holiday productions going on and there are new things coming in. Our area is becoming popular for a lot of things including birding. This past spring they kicked off Bay Area Birding for the Spring Migration and they created a birding guide where they talk about different parks and birding destinations in our area. For people that live in this area and don’t get out much, we have so much to offer as an area. We are so close to two international airports. We have a cruise ship terminal down in Galveston, we have beaches, fishing opportunities, sailing and watersports.

Bay Area Houston also has a killer foodie scene. We have restaurants and we have the arts. You don’t necessarily have to go into Houston or inside the loop to experience all we have to offer. Shawna shares some exciting news, telling us that the Bay Area Houston Conventions and Visitors Bureau is launching its own app. You will be able to download it and you will be able to plan your itinerary and have access to any business in their directory. This is another way to drive everything that makes Bay area Houston such a wonderful place to live, work and play.
