This week on Clear Lake Connections Podcast presented by UTMB Health: Meet Stephen Seger, Owner of Seger Yachts, LLC. In this weeks episode, Stephen discusses his passion of connecting buyers and sellers with sailboats, his experience in the boating industry and how he helps guide people in the community through the yacht buying process. Stephen also talks about how booming the boat industry is and his advice for someone looking to get into the industry.

Steven is a licensed yacht broker in the state of Texas and his focus is monohulled sailboats. He is a single business owner who is an advocate for the coast and likes to connect buyers and sellers of sailboats. The brokerage is finding buyers and sellers and getting them together. It’s as simple as that.

Steven says that being from Houston, it is an interesting place to do business. He has always gone to the coat, spent his life fishing in the south Texas area and he has found a new side to the coastal life and the boating industry. It seems natural that a business like his would be located here. We are in a great boating community, and they say that you are better off getting around the lake by boat than car. Another thing he feels that makes it such a tightknit community is that we have a lake that is brackish water 25 miles inland and that we are close to Houston. These cumulate to be a strong and healthy community of good boat owners and boating industry.

He has noticed in an uptick recently with people who want to get out on their boats. There has been a surge in the boat market. There have been more boats sold during this time then there has been in recent years. We are seeing more first-time boat owners and with many yachts available and it is an exciting time to be in the industry. His typical boat that he is connecting people with looks like 30–40-foot yachts with many different varieties. Every client has something different in mind when they’re looking for a boat. Their end goal looks different once they are in the process.

A big part of the brokerage business is helping guide them to what they think they want and guiding them through the process. Some of the amenities on a boat like this come with a larger cabin, a full kitchen salon and air condition. Some of his clients are people who usually stay in the Galveston Bay area. They are usually family oriented, or he gets people from the Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio Areas. These people are getting a boat for a weekend activity or summer fun.

Advice for someone in this industry he would say that you should just follow your passion.
