Freezing Temperatures Expected In Clear Lake Friday

CLEAR LAKE, TX — Following a cold front that swept through the Houston area Wednesday night, freezing temperatures are expected in Clear Lake early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

It's also possible, though unlikely, that small portions of the Greater Houston area could experience patches of sleet or freezing rain Thursday evening. A winter storm warning has been issued for much of south Texas, while the San Antonio and Austin areas are under a winter storm watch. Temperatures are expected to be above freezing when precipitation reaches the Houston area, according to the National Weather Service.

NWS issued a special weather statement Thursday morning concerning the risk of wintry mix precipitation until 10 a.m. Friday. The main areas of concern are south of Interstate 10, with risk increasing south toward the Matagorda Bay area.

At the very least, cold rain is expected Thursday afternoon into Friday in Clear Lake with the Accuweather forecast showing rain chances between 1 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday. Friday's low is expected to be 32 degrees.

It's also expected to be chilly next week as the forecast calls for high temperatures mostly in the 50s.
