Galveston County Holding Transportation Summit on Sept. 1
A transit summit is planned for Sept. 1 to discuss the $500 million that will be spent on road construction in Galveston County.

GALVESTON, TX — The 2016 Galveston County Transportation Summit opens Thursday, Sept. 1, providing community leaders and members a chance to get a first hand look at some of the major transportation projects, ongoing and proposed, that will impact the Bay Area.
The summit will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the Doyle Convention, 2010 Fifth Ave. N., in Texas City. Registration opens at 9 a.m.
Scheduled participants include: Texas Department of Transportation Houston District Engineer Quincy Allen, Congressman Randy Weber, state Sen. Larry Taylor, state Reps. Greg Bonnen and Wayne Faircloth, Galveston County Commissioner Ken Clark and Houston Galveston Area Council Director Alan Clark.

The program will be divided into four sessions with each session focusing on different aspects of transportation planning and funding.

Session one will feature Taylor as moderator and will include Allen, HGAC Director Alan Clark and Commissioner Ken Clark explaining all the processes, organizations and agencies involved in road transportation planning.
Allen will moderate session two, which will feature multiple TxDOT officials providing a detailed update on all current and proposed state improvement projects in Galveston County.
For session three, the luncheon keynote, Weber will discuss federal transportation issues and perspectives.
Bonnen will moderate session four, a discussion of regional transportation projects such as State Highway 99/the Grand Parkway.
