Galveston Facing Road Construction
Galveston residents and visitors will deal with construction along the Bolivar Peninsula.
Galveston, TX -- TxDOT has approved a $14 million plan to upgrade State Highway 87 on the Bolivar Peninsula. The construction will raise the roadway to 7.5 feet from the intersection with State Highway 124 to Rollover Pass in Gilchrist.
The construction is needed because SH 87, the only main road on Bolivar, is often closed due to high tide and severe weather events. The roadway is also regularly blocked by water, sand and debris.
There is currently no word on when the construction will begin or how long the project is expected to last.
