Galveston Woman Faces Charges In Fatal DWI Crash

GALVESTON, TX — A woman who allegedly hit a group of bicyclists riding toward the Seawall, killing one, has been charged.

Gerilyn Weberlein, 50, was arrested and charged with Intoxication Assault, after she showed signs of intoxication, officers said.

The accident happened at about 10 p.m. Monday when two of the five bicyclists who were riding on 69th Street toward Seawall Blvd, were struck by a car driven Weberlein.

According to a KTRK report, the area where the accident happened is poorly lit, and none of the bicyclist had lights.

Meanwhile, the two bicyclists were taken to UTMB in Galveston, where one died early Tuesday morning.

The other bicyclist suffered fractures and bruises and is expected to recover.

A judge set Weberlein’s bail at $100,000, officials said.

Charges against her could be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter due to the victim’s death.

The name of the deceased has not been released.
