High Fecal Bacteria Levels At Texas Beaches This Memorial Day

High Fecal levels invade some Galveston area beaches in time for first long summer weekend.

GALVESTON, TX — The first holiday weekend of summer is the first chance many Texans have to get to the beach. However, those Memorial Day weekend beach plans may look like less of an option after reports of high fecal bacteria levels along some Galveston area beaches this weekend.

Beach goers who are heading to popular destinations such as Bolivar Peninsula or Crystal Beach, Stewart Beach or East Beach in Galveston, or Surfside Beach in Freeport will be happy knowing fecal bacteria levels tested low at those favorite coastal locations.

However, according to the General Land Office Texas Beach Watch, there are several Galveston beaches that tested high for fecal bacteria.

The high fecal bacteria levels are a result of a number of sources including boat waste, human and animal waste and other pollutants.
