High Levels Of Fecal Bacteria Invade Texas Beaches

Poop Alert: Just in time for Spring break. Fecal bacteria levels considered high along Texas Gulf Coastline

FREEPORT, TX — If a trip to the beach is in your spring break plans next week, it could be a disappointing trip.

A report issued on Thursday indicates that some Texas beaches have tested for medium and high levels of fecal bacteria.

The information, which was released by Texas Beach Watch, indicates most of the affected beaches are located south of Galveston Island, and south of San Luis Pass.

However, there are a few beaches that have high levels at Bolivar Peninsula, north of Galveston Island.

  • Bolivar Peninsula at O'Neil Road
  • Bolivar Peninsula at Retilon Road
  • Galveston Island 57th Street
  • Freeport's Stahlman Park
  • Surfside Beach
  • Surfside Jetty Park
  • Quintana Beach
  • Matagorda Peninsula
  • Ropes Park on Corpus Christi Bay
  • Bob Hall Pier on Corpus Christ Bay

Swimming is not recommended in areas where fecal bacteria is medium or high.
