Kemah Man Killed In Welding Explosion

A man who was welding a gas tank on a boat was killed in an explosion Monday afternoon.

KEMAH, TX -- A 57-year-old man was killed in an explosion Monday afternoon, officials said.

Galveston County deputies were called to Gulf Coast Trawl Doors in the 900 block of Lawrence Road for an explosion.

Deputies arrived and found a man who’d been badly burned by an explosion.

Witnesses told deputies the man was welding the gas tank attached to a small boat inside when the tank

exploded, officials said in a statement.

The man was rushed to Clear Lake Regional Hospital, where he died.

Foul play is not suspected.

Officials have not yet released the man's name.

OSHA will conduct a separate investigation into the accident, officials said.
