Love Conquers All: Galveston Officer Helps Recover Lost Ring

Galveston Police Officer Derrick Jaradi went beyond his call of duty to help a bride-to-be find a lost engagement ring on a Galveston beach

GALVESTON, TX — The persistence of a Galveston police officer is proving, at least to one couple, that love conquers all.

It was just another routine day for Galveston Police Officer Derrick Jaradi, until he was flagged down on Saturday by Jessica Haelen who’d lost her engagement ring on a Galveston beach.

With the start of tourist season around the corner and the beaches already becoming something of a destination, the chances of finding the ring seemed slim at best.

This was no ordinary ring, but a ring passed down to her from her mother before she died, and Jaradi was no ordinary officer, having become engaged himself that very day, KPRC reported.

Jaradi brought out a metal detector to help, and he, Haelen, and even complete strangers helped scour the beach but their search didn’t recover the engagement ring.

Haelen left the beach heartbroken on Saturday night, convinced the ring was lost forever.

Several hours later, she received a text from Jaradi telling her he’d found the ring.

Jaradi had been called out to a beach party, and decided to take one more swipe with his metal detector and found the ring.

Haelen will be tying the knot in July, and as expected Jaradi has been added to the guest list.
