Man Accused Of Using Lawnmower To Spray Gravel At Family

Johnny Manning, 72, is accused to using a riding lawnmower to spray gravel at his roommate, her 9-year-old daughter, and her ex-husband

GALVESTON, TX — A 72-year old Galveston man who allegedly used a lawnmower to pelt his former roommate, her ex-husband and their 9-year old daughter with gravel, is faces assault charges.,

Johnny Dewitt Manning was arrested Saturday, and is charged with assault, criminal mischief, and injury to a child.

The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of Moore Road.

Witnesses told police that the ex-husband was dropping off his 9-year-old daughter and ex-wife, who is Manning's roommate, at the home, when Manning allegedly drove a riding lawnmower down the gravel driveway and sprayed rocks at the trio, KTRK reported.

The spray of rocks hit the woman and child, and caused dents and broken windows to the man's SUV.

The victim told investigators that Manning does not like him.

Police said when they got to the home and tried to talk to manning, he hid in a garage and refused to talk to police, KPRC reported.

Police arrested Manning, and he allegedly confessed to the incident, adding that he'd do it again if he had the chance.

Manning was released with his bond set at $46,500.
